MacPhail Suzuki Alumnus Pete Docter Named Creative Head of Pixar
You never know where music lessons might take you!

Docter has been promoted to a new role as creative chief of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ subsidiary Pixar.
A six-time Oscar nominee, he co-wrote “Toy Story,” “Toy Story 2,” and “Wall-E”; earned Best Animated Feature Oscars for directing 2010’s “Up” and 2016’s “Inside Out”; and was a nominee for his 2001 feature “Monsters Inc.” He even does voice work in his own movies.
“I am excited and humbled to be asked to take on this role,” he said in a statement about his new job. “It is not something I take lightly; making films at Pixar has been my chronic obsession since I started here 28 years ago.”

Musicians of all stripes offer free concerts of Bach’s music in subways and other public spaces, so it is a perfect fit for Suzuki students since we play so much Bach! Melanie Smith-Doderai practices what she preaches. Not only did she write this article about 5 reasons for group lessons, but she worked to gather 30 young fiddle students from Fort Saskatchewan and the surrounding area to create a professional old-time fiddle recording with Wolf Willow Sound Productions.

The ideas brought up—whether new or recycled—can be interesting and helpful to everyone. Plan now to attend an institute in 2018, and be sure to lend your voice to the discussions at an Institute Focus Group meeting!

The SAA needs YOU to host a 2-day SPA course at your school or other program facility!
You provide the location, you help spread the word, and brew the coffee. The SAA does almost all of the planning——registrations, contracts, travel & more!
Suzuki Principles in Action (SPA) may be offered from September through early April. SPA welcomes all Suzuki instrumental, vocal, and Early Childhood teachers who meet the minimum requirements. PLAN NOW! Click here for more about the course, or call the SAA Office for further details.
Updated price on Studio Memberships!
As of August 1, active teacher members of the SAA may collect 10 or more Associate memberships from families in their studio for only $35 USD per family. Studio memberships must be submitted to the SAA at one time, but separate checks for each family are acceptable.
