In this issue: Conference Student Performances Now OnlineVideos of student performances from the 2014 SAA Conference are now available! All videos are free to view online, or you can download them for a minimal charge. Video downloads are professionally edited in high definition and display titles of each piece, a list of performers, and video credits.
Parents as Partners 2015Back by popular demand! The Parents as Partners Online series will once again be available in 2015, running from late January through the end of June. Consider enrolling your parents (and fellow teachers) in this special series, which will include brand new as well as past PPO talks on parent education and many other Suzuki-related topics. Sessions will vary in length from 5 to 15 minutes, and be accessible online 24-7. Watch for upcoming registration information in upcoming Suzuki-enews. We also encourage you to plan ahead by including the PPO in your studio fees. Costs are listed below. StudioTeacher (you!) plus your studio parents. Note: Parents do not need to be SAA members, but are always welcome to join. $50 for teacher plus 1 to 5 parents Individual$25 for SAA members Suzuki Principles in Action: Upcoming CoursesSuzuki Principles in Action (SPA) is a two day, cross-instrumental course designed to help teachers incorporate Suzuki’s principles effectively in their teaching. The inspiration for SPA came from a need, identified by both Trainers and Teacher Workshop Participants, to deal with the challenges of implementing the knowledge gained from Unit courses into the reality of day-to-day studio teaching. The course focuses on how to teach, not what to teach, allowing the sharing of ideas among all instrument areas. SPA is based on Dr. Suzuki’s belief that knowledge is an important first step, but “knowledge plus 10,000 times” is what produces ability. Read more Upcoming Courses will be held in:
Back to School: Get your Studios Ready!Teacher Location ServiceLooking for more students? Now is the perfect time to sign up for the online teacher search. There are over 2,500 people searching for teachers each month, so it’s a great, easy way for parents in search of a Suzuki teacher to find you. Listing in the Find a Teacher search on the SAA website is not automatic—there are lots of members who don’t want to be listed! If you would like to be included, you need to sign up here. If you’re already in the teacher search, check your profile and make sure your location, email address, and phone number are still correct. Don’t forget that you can include your picture, website, and biography. If you are no longer looking for more students, please delete your listing. Suzuki Job Openings for Teachers and AdministratorsDon’t forget—we have a list online of current Suzuki job openings from programs seeking both teachers and administrators. Right now there are 15 positions from across the country! And if your program has a job opening you’d like publicized to over 2,000 people every month, see our job listings guidelines. Studio MembershipsWant your studio parents to receive the American Suzuki Journal? Studio Memberships are a great way for families to support the SAA and receive the ASJ.
