What’s an SAA conference like for students? Read some comments from students, parents, and teachers who participated in Suzuki Youth Orchestra of the Americas.
Session Proposals
Have a great idea to share with your Suzuki colleagues?
Sessions on instrument technique, pedagogy, history, musicianship, research and technology provide a framework for every SAA conference. Just as in the past, well have both general and instrument-specific sessions to support our Conference theme, Powered by Community.
We’re looking for 50-minute solo, panel and team presentations, mini sessions (10-12 minute live presentations), and nano sessions (5 minute videos). All proposals must be submitted online no later than October 25.
See topic suggestions and submit your session proposal
Suzuki Americas 2014
We’re really excited about Suzuki Americas 2014, which will feature the Latin American Suzuki Ensemble and additional special events for Suzuki students from all parts of the SAA region—North, Central, and South America! More details to come on how to participate for North American students.
181 Latin American students have applied for this unique opportunity—but we need your help to make it a reality! Cecilia Calvelo-Hopkins has some great ideas on how your community can help.
Discovering the SAA Conference
Still not sure if you want to come? Read what violin teacher Ian Salmon experienced at his first SAA conference in 2010:
My first trip to Minneapolis couldn’t have come at a more inopportune time. I was in the final semester of graduate studies and far more concerned with my lurking post-grad financial crisis than with attending another music educator conference. However, my teacher, Sandy Reuning, made it absolutely clear that this one was different and not to be missed. Read More
2014 Summer Institutes
This past summer many Suzuki students and teachers were inspired and motivated through SAA approved summer institutes. In 2013, we had nearly 2,000 teachers complete training at a summer institute and over 7,000 students attend!
Institutes provide an opportunity for Suzuki students to come together and learn from inspirational guest faculty, socialize with other Suzuki students, and perform together through a week-long invigorating program. Teachers, likewise, can completed SAA teacher training during the institute with our highly knowledgeable and experienced teacher trainers. Many thanks to our institute directors and amazing faculty who make this possible each year!
Preliminary plans for the 2014 Summer Institutes will be posted online on Wednesday, October 16. More details will be added in the coming months, but take a look next week to get a head start on your teacher training plans for next summer.
