In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, the SAA will no longer be printing a member directory. Members can access the directory online at this link: https://suzukiassociation.org/people/. The SAA will donate the funds that would have been used to print future directories to the Michele Higa George Suzuki Outreach Fund, which provides teacher training scholarships for Black teachers.

The November issue of the American Suzuki Journal is coming to your mailbox soon! This issue celebrates first-time authors who have never submitted to the publication before. It is full of valuable insights on the Suzuki Triangle, habit formation and mindfulness, and bringing social justice into the studio. Our diverse group of authors come from across the Americas and represent violin, viola, cello, and piano. Submitting to the journal is a tremendous act of courage, and I hope you’ll join me in celebrating these authors for their commitment to sharing their insights with our community. Support your colleagues and friends by reading their work. The next deadline for submitting to the ASJ is November 1. We welcome submissions from any members of our Suzuki community — even, and especially, if you’re “not a writer.” We hope to increase representation in our pages from authors who are diverse in terms of instrumentation, geography, race, ethnicity, gender, ability, age, and more. Click on a link below to read the full article: The Latin American Suzuki Association Committee reports its important meeting held with Tamara González and Daniel de Lima, elected representatives to the Board of the SAA. The Committee had the opportunity to share our achievements, challenges, and the forms of support that are intended to be obtained, as well as the ways in which we intend to continue the work of the Committee. We hope this communication with the SAA Board of Directors will become even closer in order to bring more effective responses to the needs of the Suzuki community in Latin America.  News from GuatemalaWith the aim of having a constantly growing community, the National Suzuki Association of Guatemala organized an event of virtual piano and violin Master Classes for students. The invited teachers María José Rodríguez (piano) and Ana Cecilia Villegas (violin) coordinated the event. It was a very enriching moment for the Suzuki community in this country.  The AMMS has a new presidentStarting this October, teacher Araceli Lugo Oliva will begin her duties as President of the Mexican Association of the Suzuki Method (AMMS). “I am a woman dedicated to education and art with the firm conviction, as Shinichi Suzuki tells us, that the family will lead the community to build a better world through music,” says Araceli. We are sure that Araceli will continue and solidify the work that Leslie Mizrahi has carried out for this Association in the last 4 years. 37th International Suzuki Festival of Peru and more news The Suzuki Association of Peru is in its thirty-seventh edition of the Suzuki International Music Festival. The new edition will be held in January 2022 in virtual mode. The Mighty String Demons of Staten Island’s Hiroshima/Nagasaki Memorial Submitted by: Sanchie Bobrow On August 7 of 2021, The Mighty String Demons, young violinists from Staten Island, under the direction of Sanchie Bobrow, presented a memorial performance to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the end of World War II. In this performance, on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center, the members of the ensemble each read an excerpt of the picture book, Sadako, by Eleanor Coerr with illustrations by Ed Young. Between excerpts, the group performed duets by Bartok, the Children’s Prayer by Humperdinck, the Ashokan Farewell by Jay Ungar, Dr. Suzuki’s arrangement of Can You Count the Stars and an arrangement of Sakura by Joanne Martin. The violinists were joined by guitarist, Nicole Azzarelli and bassist, Kazuo Nakamura. The presentation was in collaboration with Peace Action of Staten Island whose vision is of world peace in which: the menace of nuclear weapons has forever been erased from our planet, war has been abolished as a method of solving conflicts, all human beings are assured the wherewithal to live in health and dignity.
